Skill Assessment – Accounting
Accounting is considered the ‘hottest’ occupation for migrants. It does not mean that Australia needs more accountants, but that many applicants have chosen accountant and related occupations as their nominated occupation for visa 189 or 190. This leads to accountant occupations (occupation ID 2211) becoming highly competitive with the minimum EOI point of 100 (in the 11 April 2020 invitation round) for subclass 189 visas. However, there are still chance for achieving permanence resident via visa 190 for candidates with not so high EOI points. Please take note that not all states/territories have accountant on their occupation list.
One of the most important thing you need to do before applying for permanent resident is having a positive skills assessment. For accountant occupation and related occupations, please submit your required documents to one of the assessing authority bodies:
- CAANZ: https://www.charteredaccountantsanz.com/
- CPAA: https://www.cpaaustralia.com.au/ or
- IPA: https://www.publicaccountants.org.au/
Firstly, you need to choose which occupation you will nominate. It depends on your educational knowledge or subjects that you have taken at Universities. Below is the ANZSCO:

- Corporate treasurer – 221212
- External auditor – 221213

- Quantitative Methods
For Taxation accountant, you need to study those subjects above plus Australian Taxation Law. For External auditor, Audit and Assurance must be studied in addition to 7 subjects stated above.
Please make sure that your qualification is equivalent to at least an Australian bachelor’s degree.
Secondly, you need to meet the English language proficiency requirement (https://www.cpaaustralia.com.au/become-a-cpa/migration-assessment/australia/english-language-requirements). You can be exempted if you have a Professional Year Certificate.
